Miron

We are so sad to share that we’ve said goodbye to our senior Amur tiger, Miron, who has passed away following a decline in his health due to age-related illness.

12-year-old Miron has been receiving specialist geriatric health care – including pain medication and joint supplements – from our vets and keepers, for over a year, to manage incurable degenerative joint issues. We want to ensure every animal in our care is strong and comfortable, and that we manage any known health conditions proactively. As Miron aged, his illnesses would only worsen, and we didn’t want him to suddenly deteriorate to a point we couldn’t help him. This meant that the kindest decision was to euthanise him.

Miron was an important ambassador for endangered Amur tigers in the wild, and after retiring to Whipsnade in 2024, he taught visitors all about the threats tigers sadly face, and how they can help us to tackle them.

It is with huge sadness that we say goodbye to Miron, he will be greatly missed.
