We celebrated World Elephant Day on 12 August. Activities are now over for this year - find out what events are coming up.
Whipsnade Zoo is home to five Asian elephants - Ming Jung, Donna, Lucha, Kaylee and little Nang Phaya who will be turning 3 at the end of August. They are incredible ambassadors for their wild cousins who are endangered at around 50,000 left in the wild. With threats such as habitat loss and human-animal conflict, it is more important than ever to raise awareness and celebrate these precious animals.
What is happening for World Elephant Day at Whipsnade Zoo?
Come and join us with our elephants in the Asia section of our zoo for a fun filled day of talks and even the opportunity to meet our elephant keepers. We will be hosting our talks at 11:30 and 2:00 and right after, get all your elephant-astic questions ready to quiz our amazing team of elephant keepers. Ever wanted to know how much an elephant eats? Or who is the cheekiest elephant of our herd? Or just how clever they are? Well this is your opportunity, so don't miss out!
