Our World Lion Day 2025 celebrations at Whipsnade Zoo are now over, find out what's coming up.
Whipsnade Zoo is home to our pride of North African lions, lionesses Winta and Waka, our male lion, Malik and their cubs! We need to help African lions as they are a Vulnerable species on the IUCN Red List. Their population is decreasing with threats including hunting and habitat destruction, leaving only around 23,000 lions left in the wild.
What is happening for World Lion Day at Whipsnade Zoo?
To celebrate as well as raise awareness for these magnificent animals, we have many different activities for you to take part in. Join us from 11:00-5:00 for lion talks, a lion trail, arts and crafts, competitions and more.
We are going to be at two locations. Make your way to Base Camp Arena and immerse yourself in activities and then head up to our lions in the Africa zone for our talks. Learn more about our new lions, what conservation work we’re doing, and how our keepers are looking after a new pride. All activities are included in the cost of your Zoo ticket or membership.
Members, Fellow and Patrons can pick up an exclusive lion pin badge from the activity area at Base Camp Arena — just show your membership card when you collect. Don’t miss out, they’re first come, first served while stocks last!
