Behind the Scenes Tours: Aquarium
Not open to general visitors, this is a rare opportunity to visit behind the scenes of our aquarium at Whipsnade Zoo. Led by one of the specialist ectotherm keepers, you will learn about the incredible species under their watch, including extinct in the wild species and the conservation projects that are behind them.
What to expect on the day of your behind the scenes tour of the Aquarium
This 45 minute behind the scenes tour begins with a health and safety briefing from an expert keeper who will then take you behind the scenes of our Aquarium, where you can find out about the unique species we have in this area and the care and attention that they receive and why they are in this special area. There will be plenty of time to ask questions and view our fish, and with only a maximum of six people taking part in the experience, you'll find out all the secrets that go into breeding some of the world's rarest species.
Prices
The Behind the Scenes tours are £20 per person and run on selected Fridays throughout the year.
ZSL Gold Members, Patrons and Fellows receive a 10% discount on this experience. Please login using the email address associated with your membership and your discount will be applied automatically at checkout.

- Admission to the Zoo is not included and must be purchased separately or ZSL membership held.
- Participants must be aged 10 years or older. (But recommended for 12+ years)
- All participants must wear closed toe shoes and use an antiseptic foot dip before accessing the behind the scenes areas.
- Children aged 10-15 years must be accompanied by a participating adult (18+ years)
- Pregnant or nursing mothers who have given birth within the previous 6 months cannot participate.
- Wheelchair access can be made available for this experience. Please add this information at check out.
- Those with disabilities can be accompanied by an essential carer to support them during the experience. Should you require an essential carer please add this information at check out.

The behind the scenes aquarium tour can be tailored for wheelchair users. Space behind the scenes does have some restrictions and therefore we can accommodate wheelchairs that are maximum 26.5 inches at their widest.
