How do the different jobs at ZSL help protect wildlife?
During 'Jobs at the Zoo' students will learn about the threats facing wildlife, and the role of zoos in protecting them.
A fun and hands on experience of work course where SEND learners will explore real jobs at the zoo, try new skills and build confidence for future.
Each week, the course introduces the group to a new job role at the zoo using a mixture of classroom theory, discussion, role-play, hands on practical activity. Through experiential learning learners gain experience of work, build confidence, independence and employability skills in real-world context.
Consisting of 5 sessions, departments might vary but jobs could include:
Conservation
- Zookeeping
- Veterinary
- Retail
- Horticulture
Age Group: 14+ with mild to moderate SEN (working at KS1/KS2) or profound SEN
Location: At Whipsnade Zoo
Capacity: 6 - 8 students (minimum 2 staff supporting)
Duration: x5 1-1.5 hour sessions (classroom learning, short break, practical activity and reflection each week)
Availability: Consecutive Mondays or Fridays - runs during term time only
Timings: Sessions run between 10.30-12.00 (AM) or 12.30-14.00 (PM)

Please Note: This course must be booked by a school, college or alternative education provider. Staff must accompany students throughout. We cannot accept individual students onto our courses.
