A big weekend for the tallest animal. Join us as we celebrate World Giraffe Day this year at Whipsnade Zoo.
On the longest day of the year, we're celebrating our longest necked animal, and we're stretching out the celebrations over the whole weekend too! Join the fun on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June.
Whipsnade Zoo is home to an incredible Tower of giraffes, so come along and meet the whole family and Stand Tall to help raise awareness of their plight in the wild.
Why do we celebrate World Giraffe Day?
We were delighted to celebrate the recent arrive of two adorable baby giraffes, Leonie and Duke!
While we have a good number of giraffes in our tower here at Whipsnade Zoo , sadly, the same can't be said for giraffes in the wild. Over the past 35 years, populations of reticulated giraffes have declined by more than 40%, making conservation efforts more important than ever.
Come and celebrate Giraffe Day with us—meet our newest arrivals, learn more about these incredible animals, and discover how ZSL is working to protect giraffes in the wild.
What activities are taking place, and where will they be?
Over our Giraffe weekend we have a whole array of activities all to do with Giraffes including free games, activities, quizzes and crafts as well as extra talks and feeds.
Our Giraffe Starshade and activities will be located on the main lawn between the learning hub and the carousel. These activities will be running from 11am-5pm.
Our two giraffe talks, at 11:30am and 3:30pm, will be located at our Giraffe habitat.
Will any experiences be available?
Absolutely! There will be an extra opportunity to get up close to the world's tallest animals with our special Meet the Giraffes experience. Enjoy feeding our giraffes their lunch whilst an expert Zookeeper tells you about our giraffe herd, as well as some fascinating giraffe facts.

- Admission to the Zoo is not included and must be purchased separately.
- Participants must be 8 years of age or older.
- Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Each participant must also have a valid Meet the Giraffes experience ticket. No more than two children per adult.
- Pregnant or nursing mothers cannot participate.
- Participants with learning or visual impairment must be accompanied by a carer. Accompanying carers can enter the VIP area free of charge but will not participate in the experience.

How to take part?
All our regular Giraffe day activities* are included in the cost of your ticket or membership. There is a Meet the Giraffe experience which will incur an additional cost, tickets for these can be purchased by clicking the link above. Additional talks and demonstrations are also happening throughout Giraffe Weekend so download the Whipsnade Zoo app for the last talks times, interactive map, and other useful information.
