It's World Giraffe Day on Friday 21 June.
On the longest day of the year, we're celebrating our longest necked animal, and we're stretching out the celebrations over the whole weekend too! Join the fun on Friday 21, Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 June 2024.
Whipsnade Zoo is home to an incredible Tower of giraffes, so come along and meet the whole family and Stand Tall to help raise awareness of their plight in the wild.
Where will World Giraffe Day activities take place?
Please check our talk boards to find out more but all of our activities will take place up by our Giraffe enclosure and house. So join us for special talks, keeper Q&As, activities, games, and tall tales. There'll be a chance to buy extra giraffey items in the shop as well.
All activities are included in the cost of your zoo ticket or membership.
Will any experiences be available?
Absolutely! There will be an opportunity to get up close to the world's tallest animals with our special Meet the Giraffes experience.* Enjoy feeding our giraffes their lunch whilst an expert Zookeeper tells you about our giraffe herd, as well as some fascinating giraffe facts.

Why should we celebrate giraffes?
An iconic symbol of the African Savanna, these majestic animals are threatened with extinction and urgently need our help. In the last 60 years alone, the reticulated giraffe has lost a staggering 80% of its population, and this will continue to plummet unless we step up. So join us for our giraffe day celebrations, and learn how ZSL is helping these incredible animals.
Member, Fellow and Patron special: Collect a giraffe pin badge!
On all three celebration days, you can snap up your very own pin badge to celebrate these incredible species. Simply pop over to the giraffes when activities take place and show your membership card to a member of staff. But hurry, the pin badges are limited and will be handed out on a first-come first-served basis.
