Where will World Red Panda Day activities take place?

To celebrate as well as raise awareness for these magnificent animals, we have many different activities for you to take part in. Join us from 10:30-4:30 for quizzes, crafts, a fun story, and talks throughout the day.

We are going to be at two locations. Make your way to Base Camp Arena where you will find the Red Panda Gazebo, here you can immerse yourself in activities. Then head up to our red panda habitat (near our otters) for our talks. Learn more about our red pandas, what conservation work we’re doing, and how our keepers are looking after such incredible animals. All activities are included in the cost of your Zoo ticket or membership*.

Members, Fellow and Patrons can pick up an exclusive Red Panda pin badge from the activity area at Base Camp Arena — just show your membership card when you collect. Don’t miss out, they’re first come, first served while stocks last!

*All events and activities are subject to change.

Why should we celebrate red pandas?

Red pandas are at risk of extinction. Researchers believe that the total population of red pandas has declined by 40 percent over the past two decades, resulting in them being classified as endangered by the IUCN. Scientists estimates there are less than 10,000 individuals in the wild, with some research suggesting there is as few as 2500 left.

What is ZSL doing to help the red panda?

Red pandas are on the EDGE list for mammals, which means that there is an emphasis on conserving this species in the wild. EDGE stands for Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered and is a programme launched by ZSL to highlight species that are exceptionally unique with few living relatives. Under the EDGE programme, their status is assessed, and these species are given increased conservation attention and support.

What can you do to support red pandas?

You can help  ZSL’s vital conservation work for the red pandas and many other species. By becoming a Zoo member and you also enjoy a whole year of unlimited Zoo visits, which include other animal celebration days!
