Visit our elephant calf

A mammoth new arrival was born on 8 June 2026 - an endangered Asian elephant calf! Look out for him exploring his expansive paddock, alongside his multi-generational family, including mum Donna, sister Nang Phaya, and grandmother Kaylee.

The baby boy is a vital addition to the European breeding programme for endangered Asian elephants – which in the wild are threatened by habitat fragmentation and climate change. And you could help to name him by entering our prize draw. Every donation made will help support the care of our herd, and ZSL’s conservation projects around the globe to restore habitats and protect wildlife.

Our elephant herd and their role in conservation

Sadly, Asian elephants are considered by conservationists to be one of the most persecuted species in the world, facing daily threats in the wild through conflict with the communities they live alongside, as well as habitat loss and degradation.

Our elephants play an active role in developing new conservation technology, they contribute to vital veterinary advancements and help conservationists through behavioural and scientific studies – all of which are applied to efforts to preserve elephants in the wild.

Visit Whipsnade Zoo, a conservation zoo

Whipsnade Zoo is more than just a Zoo, we're part of ZSL, an international science-driven conservation charity. Our conservationists in Thailand use cutting-edge wildlife technology to monitor Asian elephants, and are working with local communities to reduce human/wildlife conflict, to protect these incredible animals.

Every visit to see our elephants is an act of support for their conservation, providing vital funds to continue our work.
