Our chimpanzees took a break from sunbathing to enjoy some ice-cold treats prepared by zookeepers, as temperatures across the UK rise again.
The five-strong troop spend most of their day chilling in the sunshine, but were happy to get moving when presented with their own special ice-lollies.
Made with sugar-free squash, water, and frozen peas - a special treat in addition to their usual diet of root veg and leafy greens - the African primates enjoyed tucking into their frozen summer snack, with cheeky Grant seen stealing one directly out of the hands of his mum, Bonnie.
Meanwhile, Phil resolutely sucked, slurped and licked his ice block until every last morsel was gone, whilst Elvis – the youngest of the troop – collected as many of the lollies as he could before sneaking off with his stash to consume them in peace.
As well as chilled out chimpanzees, the UK’s largest zoo is home to 12 giant Trolls this summer. Trolls: A Field Study at Whipsnade Zoo features twelve towering trolls created entirely from recycled materials by Danish artist and activist Thomas Dambo. With over 11,000 animals to see and 600-acres to explore, Whipsnade Zoo is the perfect day out for all of the family this summer.
